Accredited parentage testing laboratories and nominated reporters
If the parentage of a child is in question in a family law proceeding, the court may make a parentage testing order.
This requires a test to be carried out to help determine a child's parentage.
The medical procedures that can be used for parentage testing are:
- DNA typing
- red cell antigen blood grouping
- red cell enzyme blood grouping
- human leucocyte antigen (HLA) tissue typing
- testing for serum markers.
A parentage testing procedure must be performed at a laboratory accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA). NATA do not carry out the testing procedure. The laboratory undertaking the parentage testing procedure will advise you on the testing process.
Download the list of laboratories and nominated reporters currently accredited by NATA.
The list is published pursuant to Regulation 21N(3) of the Family Law Regulations 1984.
It does not include details of previously accredited laboratories and reporters.
