Ahead of the 2025 federal election the Australian Government has assumed a caretaker role.

The Attorney-General's Department has responsibility for constitutional law.

We provide assistance and advice to the government on matters of constitutional policy development and litigation, including advice on questions of amendments to the Australian Constitution.

We also provide advice and assistance to the government relating to constitutional issues that have general implications for Commonwealth and federal arrangements.
