Religious Discrimination Bills 2021

Discrimination
Publication date

The Religious Discrimination Bill, and associated legislation, will ensure Australians are protected from discrimination on the basis of religious belief or activity – just as they are protected from discrimination on the basis of age, sex, race and disability.

These are the:

  • the Religious Discrimination Bill 2021
  • the Religious Discrimination (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2021
  • the Human Rights Legislation Amendment Bill 2021

The legislative package has been informed by extensive consultation through two public exposure draft processes, receiving approximately 13,000 written submissions, and roundtables with more than 90 stakeholders from all key sectors, including from religious, legal, LGBTIQ+ and community groups.

Information on the first public consultation process on these bills can be found on the Religious Discrimination Bills – first exposure drafts page.

Information on the second public consultation process on these bills can be found on the Religious Discrimination Bills – second exposure drafts page.
