Annual report under the Identity Verification Services Act 2023 on the use and operation of the identity verification services between 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.

Key statistics from 2023–24 financial year 

The following key statistics are relevant to 2023–24: 

  • The Document Verification Service was used 121,537,990 times by the Commonwealth, state and territory governments, and the private sector. 
  • There were 2480 entities that used the DVS. Of these, 127 were government users and 2,353 were private sector users.
  • The Face Verification Service was used by 6 government agencies 1,943,804 times. 
  • The Face Identification Service was used 74 times. The requests for this service were made prior to the commencement of the IVS Act and in accordance with the agreements at the time.
  • There were no data breaches or security incidents during the 2023–24 financial year.
  • One entity was suspended from making requests for the identity verification services. No entity was terminated from making requests during the 2023-24 financial year. 
  • There were no authorised disclosures of information to prevent threats to life or death.
