Drugs and firearms

The abuse of illicit or illegal drugs is a high-risk activity that causes social, economic and personal harms.

We work with agencies including Australian Federal Police, Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, and Department of Health.

The Australian, state and territory governments share responsibility for firearms in Australia.

We administer the granting of permission to import certain types of firearms and firearm-related articles.

Illicit firearms remain a threat to community safety in Australia. Illicit Firearms may end up in the hands of people with criminal intent and are often untraceable by law enforcement.

All Australian governments have agreed to a permanent national firearms amnesty to reduce the number of unregistered and unwanted firearms in the community.
