Australia's Position
The Australian Government engages closely with civil society on all United Nations human rights reporting work.
The Australian Government has established a Standing National Human Rights Mechanism to strengthen its overall engagement with United Nations human rights reporting. The Terms of Reference for the Standing Mechanism include a process for consultation with the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), as Australia’s National Human Rights institution, as well as civil society. One element of this process is an annual forum to consult and communicate with NGOs and the AHRC on human rights issues.
