Fact sheet for police: Non-consensual sharing of sexual material

The Criminal Code Amendment (Deepfake Sexual Material) Act 2024 (DSM Act) strengthens existing Commonwealth criminal offences and creates new offences targeting the creation and non-consensual sharing of sexually explicit material online, including material that has been created or altered using technology, such as deepfakes.

This fact sheet provides law enforcement officials with further guidance on the criminal offences. It should be read together with the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).
