Division 10 Circumstances involving external factors

The defence of intervening conduct or event is limited in its applications to physical elements of an offences for which strict or absolute liability is imposed.

Duress excuses a person who is compelled to commit an offence by threats.

A person is not criminally responsible for an offence when conduct constituting the offence is carried out in response to circumstances of sudden or extraordinary emergency.

Conduct which would otherwise amount to an offence is not criminal if it is done in self defence.

It was necessary to provide a general defence which will excuse or justify conduct which is authorised by law.
