The Australian Government is a strong and committed advocate for gender equality, women's empowerment and the advancement of the rights of women and girls internationally. Key programmes addressing gender equality in Australia include:
- Towards 2025: An Australian Government Strategy to Boost Women's Workforce Participation, by 25 per cent by 2025.

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency is an Australian Government statutory agency charged with promoting and improving gender equality in Australian workplaces. Its vision is for women and men to be equally represented, valued and rewarded in the workplace. The Workplace Gender Equality Agency launched a national pay equity campaign in September 2014 to raise awareness of pay equity and support employers to investigate and monitor pay equity within their organisations.
