On 12 December 2019, the Attorney-General announced that the Australian Government would conduct a review of the Privacy Act 1988 to ensure privacy settings empower consumers, protect their data and best serve the Australian economy. The review was announced as part of the government’s response to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Digital Platforms Inquiry.
In 2018, feedback was sought on the draft code of practice for the Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) scheme. This consultation will help to inform the final code of practice. The final code will be published when the scheme commences.
In 2017, a public consultation paper was released on a proposed model for a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) scheme to facilitate a more effective and efficient response to corporate crime by encouraging greater self-reporting by companies.
